Lecturing, researching and writing
I have worked with a variety of community groups, to bring places and collections to life, to inspire and facilitate new interpretations and responses, and to help make communities feel connections with heritage spaces that they may have previously felt excluded from. These groups include:
-
Older people from Hackney, a group of predominantly Black older women. I worked with this group for four years, and designed regular programmes and workshops to help them engage with the stories of Sutton House, through arts and crafts workshop, creative writing, dance, exercise, drama and singing. They helped with our exhibitions and interpretation by producing artworks and responses. I also arranged various visits to other heritage sites and museums for the group to experience.
-
Autistic young people and children, using my experience of working as a Teaching Assistant and Learning Mentor at Mossbourne Community Academy in Hackney, I devised a number of visits for autistic secondary school age pupils to Sutton House, to discuss and respond to themes raised by the history of the house and the area. The group responded by creating artworks for exhibitions, and delivering their own tours to their carers, guardians, parents and teachers.
-
LGBTQ+ people, for over 6 years I have established and nurtured long term relationships with LGBTQ+ artists, facilitators, community groups (including young people 13-25), and have helped to put Sutton House on the map as a vibrant LGBTQ+ community space for exhibitions, events, and community building.

Working class families, as well as working with inter-generational local family groups to create artworks and performances, and to enjoy reading for pleasure and learning together, I have also worked with parents and carers to create family offers in heritage sites, consulting them to help create experiences that are tailored to children, toddlers and their families.
