These are my values:
-
I believe that museums, historic houses, galleries and other heritage sites still have a long way to go towards being the kind of inclusive, relevant and exciting institutions that they can be, and I intend to be part of that change
-
Heritage and the places we share heritage should be about people, and should begin with the most marginalised
-
Accessibility should be central to everything we do
-
LGBTQ+ narratives should be woven into everything we do as heritage professionals
-
It's crucial we challenge the colonial roots of museum collections, and that as institutions and professionals we develop a practice that is emphatically and aggressively anti-racist
-
The onus is not on marginalised or "hard-to-reach" communities to find heritage (that has usually overlooked them), but on us to open the doors more widely, and to shift the culture
-
Heritage should be challenging, engaging, collaborative, reflective and FUN!
This is my experience:
